What a scarey day!

Published by ncmom at 8:59 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Wow what a day I had today! I woke up to find that an outlet in my home office was smelling again (yes I said again) from time to time there was a little smoke coming out but after living in this house for over a year and dealing with the water leaks, snakes in the hallway, animals that I don’t think have been found by mankind, a little smoke really didn’t bother me or make me jump into protect my life mode. However after getting off of the phone with my mom I noticed more smoke coming from the outlet so yes at this point I’m begining to think like a normal person and worry. I called my fiance at work which means I was unable to get him because he was out in the field as they say so I was told they would “try” to reach him. HELLO DID YOU NOT HEAR ME TELL YOU THAT MY OUTLET IS ON FIRE!  I guess the secretaries brain was in slow mode like mine was at first.

After getting no where with them I decided to sneak a peek at the outlet and the thing was smoking big time with tons of smoke coming out and now was glowing orange… okay I’m a laid back person on some things and I let a lot slide when it comes to this death trap of a house but I’m no fool… I called 911 told them what was going on and grabbed my kids and dog and went outside far away from the house since we do run things by gas here. Yeah that seemed like a bad idea at the time!  So after placing my kids in the van (which doesn’t work or I would have been driving away at this point) I remember my kitty is still in the kitchen so I rush in the house to get her. Now I’m no idiot but sometimes when you’re scared you really don’t think clearly so it never crossed my mind to shut off the electricity nor did it hit me to hurry up back outside instead of answering the phone when it rang.  However it was my fiance saying that he heard over the volunteer firefighter’s radio that there was a possible structure fire at our address. Talk about waking you up at work… um HEY THAT’S MY HOUSE!  Anyway the firemen came all ten of them! So many trucks and an abulance it was really nice knowing that they were ready to protect my family.

It all ended well. I called in time and there was no real damage. The outlet had to be replaced before we could cut on the electricity (Thanks to my dad it was done quickly) we had the inspector look at all the wires and we’ve been told we’re ok but I have to wonder if that’s possible in this house!
